Jamie Hatzis, LMSW, received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology with honors from Pace University. She went on to earn her Master's degree in Social Work from SUNY at Stony Brook's School of Social Welfare. Jamie has a great passion for working collaboratively with people and she is in constant pursuit of greater knowledge. Her most recent professional development studies led her to Adelphi University where she completed advanced training in trauma studies.
Jamie works with individuals, couples and families. She strives for an evidenced based practice and recognizes the uniqueness of all individuals. Accordingly, her practice is collaborative, compassionate and client-centered. Jamie combines various clinical techniques using cognitive-behavioral, task-centered and solution focused brief therapies as she strives for culturally competent interventions. Jamie is ever mindful of the importance of her clients' spiritual lives.
Jamie's clinical experience includes work with children and adolescents that have a special education classification (autism spectrum, ADHD/ADD, emotional problems, etc.). Her therapeutic approach helps to develop and enhance social emotional skills. She also works with adolescents and adults coping with substance abuse, mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, sexual abuse and bereavement. Her training includes trauma work and crisis intervention.
Prior to joining The Freedman Center, Jamie led a distinguished career in human resources and office administration with major national and international law firms in Manhattan where she handled conflict resolution, career counseling, professional development, diversity and sensitivity training, evaluative research, as well as the design and implementation of employee programs. During her tenure with the firm Nixon Peabody, LLP Jamie spearheaded a team charged with the designing and implementation of an employee incentive program to increase employee morale. The team's success led to Nixon Peabody being named one of Fortune 100's Best Places to Work in 2008. Jamie's diversity programs led to the firm being awarded a perfect score by the Human Rights Campaign on their Equality Index.
