Dawn E. Shedrick is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has extensive experience working with individuals, couples, families, groups and communities.Over the past decade she has provided administrative, psychotherapy and direct practice services at several Long Island agencies including the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Long Island Minority AIDS Coalition (LIMAC), The Interfaith Nutrition Network (The INN) and the Long Island GLBT Services Network. Dawn utilizes an eclectic and holistic approach to help her clients achieve their hopes and goals. Her areas of passion and specialization include resproductive and sexual health issues, people of color and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning community. As an accomplished and experienced Reiki Master/Teacher, Dawn uses Reiki and other energy healing techniques as adjuncts to formal psychotherapeutic treatments.Dawn is also a trained spiritual counselor who can offer support and guidance to those who struggle with their spirituality in light of their emotional distress.
An experienced and sought-after trainer and consultant, Dawn has developed curricula and facilitated workshops on topics such as human sexuality and sexual health, homelessness, HIV prevention, substance abuse, clinical social work practice, domestic violence, cultural competency, LGBT issues, program planning/design/evaluation and staff development. She is a dynamic speaker who can engage diverse audiences of varying sizes.
A woman of color herself, Dawn is committed to providing Long Islanders with access to culturally competent therapeutic services.She draws from her personal, professional and advanced training experiences to consider the ethnic, cultural and spiritual influences of each client.
A well-rounded social worker at heart, Dawn also has a professional rapport and alliances with many community and health care providers on Long Island and can facilitate referrals to help meet the comprehensive needs of her clients.Dawn will complete her studies as an interfaith minister and will be ordained by The New Seminary in June 2009.
